Helen Keller… A Shout in Frustration’s Face!
She wasn’t born blind and deaf.
At 19-month age, a disease attacked her leaving her blind & deaf. Strange thing. How can a blind woman lead huge numbers of “sighted” people, and open their eyes!
Who is Helen Keller?
Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, activist and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to graduate from college.
I first heard her name from a trainer who quoted one of her super-famous quotes. Couldn’t forget her after that.
She was a true inspirational creature, and still is. Here are the first set of Helen’s unforgotten quotes:
- Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
- To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength un-defeatable.
- Many persons have the wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.
- Never bend your head. Hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.
- One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.
- We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.
- When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
- Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.
- We can do anything we want if we stick to it long enough.
- What I am looking for is not out there; it is in me.
- The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart.
To be continued…
