Thriving Among Change Is the Key to Success

thriving among changeEvery day brings with it new transitions. Many of them are too subtle to even notice.

But the fact is that we’re adapting constantly, dealing with the unexpected and unknown every minute of every day.

Recognizing that the human mind is naturally engineered to deal with change is a first step in learning how to thrive on change, to feed off of it, and to embrace it as a sort of privilege. Because every change is a chance for advancement, whether spiritually, personally, or financially. After all, success is itself a kind of change—a change for the better.

There’s no reason to let drastic changes, or even small ones, reduce you to a basket case, or handcuff you.

Learn to work within change, instead of fighting against it, and you may discover that you’re truly in your element when changes arise. There’s an element of chance when life enters transition, and no one human being can direct it completely; so relinquish that need for total control. And remember that the things we can’t plan, or have even planned against, may turn out to be nothing short of miracles. Many of the most significant discoveries and advancements, in science and business, are the result of happy accidents.

Most of the fears that change inspires flow from the fact that we’re More on Thriving Among Change Is the Key to Success

Confronting Life’s Most Challenging Changes

cope-with-change.jpgThe only thing certain in this life is unpredictability. Even the Ancient Greeks said that in this world, “everything flows.”

Everything is uncertain, always in motion, always changing. Anyone determined to row against this current has a poor understanding of the nature of life.

And besides, why fight change?

People tend to forget that changes can be for the better—and in any case, the transitions we endure in life lead to personal growth and mental, physical, and spiritual development.

On the other hand, changes can be overwhelming.

When they come in rapid succession, they can blindside us, and cause us to despair; instead of swimming with the changing current of life, we feel as if we are being swept helplessly along, thrashing our arms and legs, threatened with drowning. More on Confronting Life’s Most Challenging Changes

Embracing Change By Employing the Approach of Science

change-to-better.jpgPhilosophers have realized for millennia that the only enduring feature of human life is change. Sometimes they speak of it as a sort of tragedy, but that’s only one side of the coin.

Change is also exciting, life-affirming, and rewarding for those who learn to embrace it, and regard it not only as a personal challenge, but as an opportunity to achieve the better life they’ve always dreamed of.

It’s hard to cut old ties and leave behind the habits, places, and people we’ve gotten used to. Remember, however, that familiarity is comforting, but, as they say, it also breeds contempt, and often for good reasons!

Stop for a minute and reflect: are the things you’re leaving behind because of change really that great?

Can’t you hope for better? Keep things in perspective, and realize that you haven’t reached your life’s summit just yet. Greater things are ahead, and only change can bring them about. Embrace it. More on Embracing Change By Employing the Approach of Science

Can People Really Change for the Better?

accomplishing major life changesWe all know people who have gone from “good” to “bad”, or from “bad” to “worse.” But have we really known people who have changed for the better.

I would bet we can point to one or two, here or there through our lifetimes that have changed for the better. While personality traits are usually with us for our lifetime, those traits can be molded in different ways.

Change is really dependent on life circumstances, including influences in our lives, and personal experiences.

What influences people to change for the better? Do people suddenly wake up and realize they could be better persons, or do better in life? Or, is this a gradual awakening? People can, and do change. Here are some of the ways people can accomplish major life changes for the better:

  • Realizing that you need to change. Are you in a lifestyle that is not bringing you enjoyment? Do you recognize some things about yourself that is holding you back in relationships or work, or both? Realize your effect on your family, friends and colleagues. Have they been avoiding you? Have they seemed upset with you? Once you “admit”

How to Stop Bad Habits? (Purging Your System of Bad Habits)

how to stop bad habitsCertain fixations can become unhealthy if they get out of control. They can even spiral into addictions, if they become habitual.

How Can You Deal with Change Constructively?

You’ll never learn to embrace life in all of its exhilarating fullness until you learn to accept the reality of change. Uncertainty is the stuff life is made of. Without it, life would be downright monotonous. In any case, human beings are powerless to escape change. So it’s wise to develop a more well-rounded view of transition—because, while it can be intimidating, it is also full of opportunity for those who know how to look for it.

Who ever said that changes were only for the worse? Just reflect for a moment on the transitions you’ve endured since your infancy! Placed in the proper perspective, you’ll realize just how far your life has taken you. All those uncertainties you dealt with have forged you into the person you are today.

Whether large or small, earth-shattering or miniscule, transitions are a part of our lives. Armed with just a few pointers, you can confront the uncertainty in your life with confidence.

1. Fix your sights on the opportunities changes offer.

Anyone who assumes that transitions will lead to a decrease in prosperity and happiness is being tragically shortsighted. Is your current situation really that perfect? Do you think so little of yourself, that you assume that you can’t possibly do any better? When you reject change altogether, you’re robbing yourself of great opportunities. You’re dooming yourself to stagnation. You’re admitting that life will never get any better.

The changes we go through give life its sense of excitement, both its thrills and its spills. Sure, not every change is for the best. But keep a broad perspective; don’t miss the forest for the trees. What at first appears to be negative may lead you in unexpected directions, forcing you to explore avenues that you had shut off before.

2. Keep your eyes on the prize

Set your priorities in life, and make a list of your most important goals, the ones you plan on attaining no matter what. If you stay focused on these major destinations in life, you’ll be likely to reach them, no matter what zig-zag paths you may take in the process. Remember that you might reach your goals in rather unexpected ways, if you remain persistent.

3. Don’t be so egotistical

When it comes to change, keep in mind that you’re not the center of the universe. At the same time that you’re affected by change, the decisions and actions you make can bring about changes in other people’s lives as well, for better or worse. Also, certain transitions may affect entire groups of people, in which case you’ll need to discuss it openly and find a solution together.

People react to transition differently, and at varying paces. Allow every member of your group the time they need to adapt, and always be considerate of their own feelings and thoughts.

4. Don’t dwell on what was, but look forward to what will be

Many of us tend to get stuck in various ruts in our lives. There may not be anything particularly good about our old habits, but we’re used to them, and find them somehow comforting. But the fact is that life in this day and age is changing faster than ever before, and those who cling to their old routines are likely to be left behind.

Learn to let go of those old, and possibly bad, habits. Keep in mind that there are always alternatives; know how to envision new possibilities, and greet them with excitement and a readiness to learn, instead of assuming from the start that they’ll be changes for the worse. Why get hysterical, when you can meet change constructively, and make it work to your advantage?
